EXTENDED VERSION

1. Am transparent, honest, and direct

Being clear means caring. The most important aspect of a relationship is trust, without trust, there is no relationship. And trust is a value I protect in the relationship with my clients and my coworkers the most. I am clear about the way I work, any possible errors that might occur, and the expectations of all parties within the project.

2. Embrace and cherish errors

A few years back I completely changed my view on errors and am not giving up the freedom it has given me ever again! I approach each new project with a humble attitude that it is not in my power to know all the important circumstances immediately and so I know and expect errors and imperfections to come. I welcome them and search for them for they are the guides on how to treat each situation with true individual care. Every client, every coworker, and every provided service needs a different and bespoke management style that I need to figure out. Therefore I prefer to work in the mode of many smaller pilots during which we test and tweak how to work and live well together. Pilots give us the opportunity to set clear objectives and KPIs for the following ongoing projects.

Interesting sources for this:

3. Distinguish between hypothesis and fact

It is super important to distinguish between what we know based on facts and what we think we know. It is perfectly fine to test a hypothesis or to run an experiment, indeed it is important to do so for new learning and gathering of facts. When working with me you will always know based on what my work is being done, whether it is a step that is based on some proven knowledge or facts or if I believe we need to be courageous and test something for a specific reason.

4. Search for bias always

We humans are not objective creatures, none of us have access to objective reality true for all. I search for my own bias or any bias in the teamwork constantly and encourage environments where we are open to pointing out many dangerous pits of biases in decision-making or forming conclusions. We cannot be ever without bias but we can sure try the best we can!

5. Empower my clients

The goal of my consultancy is to increase the competencies of my clients and their team. It is one of my core principles to leave all the gained knowledge and know-how in the client's hands in such a way that they can use it well anytime in the future with or without me.

6. Fail Fast

I am used to running many pilots and experiments to get to know quickly what works well and what does not. I look for errors and imperfections and decide quickly if those can be tweaked or if we need to get an entirely new approach.

7. Respect my co-workers

When working with anyone I care to provide them with sufficient time and provide fair compensation in return for their quality work. I have learned that there is no true success without empathy and transparency.

8. Think long-term

As a strategist, I study the past for knowledge and envision the future to see the most possible consequences of any current decisions. I am always thinking about when some idea or approach might be felt as outdated, and what can happen in the next 6 months or several years. I know I will never know what the future brings exactly but I strive to find multiple ways to be as ready as possible.

Interesting sources for this:

9. Learn continuously

It is in my nature to like learning continuously which is especially useful for a profession of a consultant and that is why I like it so much. There are many complex issues in the fast-moving and a changing world ruled increasingly more and more by fastly developing technologies. Besides not stopping to study ever I am especially delighted to be in close touch with a number of specialists and continuously share knowledge and questions with them.

Interesting sources for this for example:

10. No greenwashing

If you’re talking sustainability and walking in the opposite direction, you’re greenwashing. I am continuously studying ways to help my clients approach sustainability well.
